Sudbury, despite its remoteness (Northern Ontario), is really an interesting place to visit. The city is known primarily for its large ore concentrations of nickel and copper. Sudbury's economy is heavily linked to the mining, milling and smelter industries. The city's biggest employer, Inco, has the largest nickel smelting operation in the world (Inco's Copper Cliff processing facility). The smelter also has the Inco Superstack, which is the tallest freestanding chimney in Canada and the Western Hemisphere. The city also has the world's largest nickel, coin that is. The "Big Nickel" is a replica of a 1951 Canadian nickel. While in Sudbury, we were made aware of a local foodie institution known as Deluxe 17. The Deluxe is a single location fast food place. Their menu includes cheeseburgers, onion rings, foot-longs, fish burgers, chicken fingers, fish and chips and pastrami on rye. I opted for the foot-long hotdog and some rings. Order first and they will bring your food to your table. The dining area has creamy white booths and table tops and orange dream sickle backs on the booths. My foot-long dog arrived @ the table wrapped in aluminum foil with mustard, ketchup, onions and relish. Yes, I am very aware of the fact that ketchup on hotdogs is not kosher. My dog was not topped with these condiments. Deluxe 17 puts your hotdog toppings on the bun first and then the dog is placed on top of them. Regardless of that, my foot-long dog was excellent. And my rings complemented the dog very nicely. The hotdogs and the buns are both grilled. Deluxe 17 has been a local Sudbury tradition since1960. Enjoy Canada!
