Southern Maid Donuts, Shreveport, Louisiana

In his lifetime Elvis endorsed only one product and made only one television commercial and they were both for The Southern Maid Donut Company (he also sang the company jingle). If Elvis loved them I had to try them. This Southern Maid location (circa 1941) is right off of Interstate 20 near the Independence Bowl. With donuts like these: their signature hot glazed, crème cheese filled, vanilla crème cheese filled, chocolate filled, lemon filled, apple pie filled, cherry filled, raspberry jelly filled to cinnamon rolls, maple nut rolls, fruit top rolls, glazed bars, maple bars, chocolate bars and twists, it's easy to see why Elvis loved this place. Their most popular flavors are; #1 the signature hot glazed, #2 cinnamon rolls, #3 twists and then apple pie filled/apple turnover. I tried the hot glazed, apple pie filled and the apple turnover with an ice cold bottle of milk from Foremost Dairy. The Foremost Dairy is about five miles away so, yes, it's fresh! All of my donuts/turnover were outstanding! We also got a dozen hot glazed to go. They are closed on Tuesday, Enjoy!
